40 Pounds Later: What It’s Really Like to Start a GLP-1 at 60, by Jeff Holway

40 Pounds Later by Jeff Holway

About the book

On January 25, 2026, I turned 60. My dad died at 59. Two days later, I stood on my doctor’s scale and saw the same number it had shown for years.

I asked him straight out whether I should take a GLP-1.

40 Pounds Later is what happened next. The four fears that almost talked me out of it. What it costs when insurance says no. The first shot, and the five-second countdown that gets me through every one. And eight months of ordinary weeks.

It’s one man’s experience, told straight, with a few laughs in it.

Who it’s for

Men 55 and older who are thinking about a GLP-1 and want to hear from someone a few months ahead. And the people who love them.

What the book explores

Six threads, one story
i.

Food Gets Weird

The appetite changes. The relationship with food changes too.

ii.

Muscle Matters More at 60

Losing weight is one thing. Losing the right weight is another.

iii.

Dinner Wasn’t Just Dinner

Eating less can quietly change routines and relationships.

iv.

The Scale Eventually Stops Cooperating

A plateau feels different after 40 pounds are already gone.

v.

The Cost Is More Than the Prescription

Money, habits, convenience, and long-term commitment all matter.

vi.

You’re Still You

A smaller body does not magically create a different person.

From the book
I miss a big burger. I don’t want one. The desire is gone. But I miss wanting one.
The decision is settled. The future isn’t.
